Meet the Team

The team behind College Hill Brew Co.: Michael, Amanda and Jake

Michael Madison - Co-Owner, CEO, Creative Director

My name is Michael Madison and I am from the beautiful Pacific Northwest city of Bellingham, Washington. I am currently in my senior year at Washington State University pursuing a degree in strategic communication with a focus on advertising. In addition to my schooling, I work as the social media manager at The Daily Evergreen. When I’m not in class, working, or studying, I most likely am playing guitar and creating music or binge-watching some TV show with my wife (lately we’ve been switching between Game of Thrones, Sons of Anarchy and Vikings). I also do enjoy drinking a quality beer or two every now and then (around here, I love going to Tapped and other local breweries.

Given my experience at The Daily Evergreen, and an internship at New Song Church over the summer where I also did social media work and content creation, I have developed a passion and interest in creating content for digital media and managing the communication on those channels. I am still not completely sure what I will do with those interests but I am constantly on the search for new ways I can use them.

Relating to this class, I am looking forward to gaining more skills to help me with content creation and presenting a business through digital media, which I hope will help me in the advertising field. This will translate to helping me with digital media and allowing me to be more desireable to future employers. Creating College Hill Brew Co. has provided me the opportunity to explore my creative side and figure out what ideas I have that are good, and which are bad. I really enjoy being allowed to create what I think is best given the situation and guidelines that need to be followed. The open nature of this class appeals to me quite a lot and I am excited about growing this company and seeing where my ideas for that lead.

The communication field in general is broad enough to where I can see myself in many different jobs in the future, but this project I think will help point me in a clearer direction of where I need to go. Having an instructor with so much incredible real-world experience is invaluable to me, and I also am looking forward to learning as much as I can from him.

I have a background in photo and video work, as well as music production. My skills vary within those fields but I am actively honing them whenever possible. Specifically, my interest in creating has always been strong. I started playing piano when I was in the 3rd grade and then switched to guitar in 7th grade. I play several different instruments to some degree but guitar is my main one. I have been in bands in the past but the last few years I have enjoyed creating my own music and exploring multiple genres and styles of playing. My interest in music has carried over into photography, but for a different reason. In music I enjoy creating the experience, and in photography I enjoy capturing the experience. While there are capturing and creative elements to both, I find that these distinctions are the most quantifiable way to explain what I personally get from these interests.

This semester is an exciting time for me.I feel like I finally am getting to apply what I already have learned and I am also getting to learn so much more as I go along. Using this class as an opportunity to grow my skills and competency, I aim to become a well-rounded individual ready to join the workforce.

Jake Archambeau - Co-Owner, CFO, Content Manager, Supply Chain Manager

Hi, I’m Jake Archambeau and I’m from Fall City, Washington. A small town 30 minutes outside of Seattle in the heart of the Snoqualmie Valley. I’m majoring in Journalism & Media Production here at Washington State University. I’m passionate about sports so I work for the WSU sports crew here at WSU working football, basketball, baseball and other sports in affiliation with FS1, ESPN, and the PAC-12 Network. I also host a weekly radio show for KUGR,  a college radio station located on campus in Murrow Hall. I have also worked as an official for intramural sports at WSU.  Last summer, I interned at a sports radio station in Seattle which was a really enjoyable and informative experience. I got to work on the morning show at 710 ESPN where I learned a boatload of valuable lessons. I learned how to interact in a business setting, I learned technical skills, and I learned the nuts and bolts of what goes into producing a daily radio show. For my team in Com 310, I am the Co-Owner, CFO, Content Manager, Supply Chain Manager . I help write business plans and statements and I collaborate with the team to produce new ideas that would help our brewery succeed. I do whatever is necessary and I help determine what decisions will be made for the future of the business. I am excited to learn more about analytics this semester and how they can help a business make decisions. I don’t know much about how a business operates behind the scenes and how they use data to make important decision so it would definitely be interesting to learn. Learning the ins and outs of analytics and how they are used would be invaluable to better understanding the marketing mix and how important user data is for any successful business.

In my near future I would love to graduate by next fall and get any job in the world of sports media. I have always wanted to work in radio but TV or online media groups would also present an intriguing challenge. I have a passion for radio but I am skeptical about the future of the industry as radio is an ancient medium and alternatives like podcasts and streaming services are encroaching into radio’s market. Radio is an intimate medium that allows for free flowing, lengthy conversation but with autonomous cars and new technology who knows how long radio will last? Down the road I would love to work in sports media either as a producer or host.  I believe my best qualities include my writing ability, my interpersonal skills, and my salesmanship attitude. Those who work with me should work with someone who is available, hard-working, passionate, and always striving to improve.

I will end my bio with a quote by the one and only Mahatma Gandhi.

“Your beliefs become your thoughts,
Your thoughts become your words,
Your words become your actions,
Your actions become your habits,
Your habits become your values,
Your values become your destiny.”

Amanda Jordan - Co-Owner, PR Spokesperson, Brand Ambassador, Booking Agent

My name is Amanda Jordan and I am from the small town of Snohomish, Washington. I am majoring in strategic communication with an emphasis in public relations. I am also minoring in music. My primary role on this team is the Public Relations spokesperson. Through this, I make sure to reach the public in all aspects and platforms. I hope to start in a public relations position and then work my way up to be a director of a business of a company one day. A special quality I bring to the team is my knowledge and passion for leadership. I have always loved leadership and am thoroughly invested in what it has to offer so I can be that liaison to support others through my leadership capabilities.

Leadership has always been a part of my life. It has always been something I am so very passionate about, and something I put my full heart into. Before coming to Washington State University, I knew it was something I wanted to continue to be a part of. Starting off being on the Associated Students of Washington State University Executive Council, and then being the Freshman Delegate on the ASWSU Senate really started me off on my leadership journey at this incredible university. Since then I have been a Cougar Connector (Campus Tour Guide), a part of the President Student Advisory Board, the ASWSU Assistant Director of Community Outreach, and much more. Now I am almost halfway through my third year at Washington State University, and I feel very accomplished in the things I have done so far in regards to leadership. I can't wait for what the next year and a half has in store for me.

Some things I am involved in currently at WSU, is that I am the Executive Director of the Cougar Leadership Team out of the WSU Student Involvement Office, I am the Junior Panhellenic/IFC President, the Chair of the Daily Evergreen Student Media Board, a member of Sigma Alpha Pi, the National Society of Leadership and Success, a member of Honor Society, a Murrow Ambassador, and a member of the Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority. I know that all of these experiences show my best leadership qualities, and will support me in all my aspirations for the future. I am somebody who is very driven, dedicated, and am one that will never give up regardless of the circumstance. I am also someone that seeks mentoring others, to make them the best leader that they can be in their life. I want to achieve greatness, but I also want to help others seek greatness. I want to do things for myself and reach my personal goals, but I also want to make my family proud and to be able to support a family one day. I think that through all my goals and aspirations, and the passion and drive I have behind those things will help me achieve great things one day. A quote that I strive to live by is, “I’ve learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget the way you made them feel.” - Maya Angelou
